It was a super windy day when I met Katherine & Michael, the kind, where it looks and feels like you are in music video in front of a wind machine but far less glamorous. As we left the cafe where we met, they were looking a little concerned however, I’d already been down into Wendy’s Secret Garden and I knew it was peaceful and we would be sheltered for our engagement session.
After a red carpet and limousine proposal, Katherine said yes. She picked Wendy’s Secret Garden in Lavender Bay as her favourite spot, unknown to many, including Michael who in spite of living in Sydney most of his life, had never been here. It’s a hidden gem of a garden with harbour views, quiet corners and quirky trinkets. With winding paths and knotted wood hand rails, the gardens have a natural charm. The grand Moreton bay fig tree at the top of the gardens provides shade and a bench marked with ‘Peace + Love’ a great spot to take in the views.
The graffiti decorated tunnel added a more urban feel to the shoot taking us down to the water it’s a short stroll to get stunning Harbour Bridge backdrop shots, by now the sun had come out and the wind had died down, ending the shoot with a walk along Lavendar Bay wharf provided a bright contrast to the dark intimacy of the gardens.
