Emma & Cameron brought their family and friends together from across Australia and England for their winter wedding in tropical Mackay, Queensland. The winter months are a quieter time for a Sydney wedding photographer so I was happy to venture north for a destination wedding during the high season for wedding photographers in the beautifully dry and mild Queensland.
I’ve known Emma since I was a kid, as cousins we used to play together in parks back in England. One of the last times we were dressed up would have been in frilly 90’s outfits with bob haircuts for a formal military function for her Dad (my uncle), of course we were more than well behaved. So it was an absolute pleasure to see her get married to her love Cameron with their three beautiful children by their sides.
The couple followed tradition and got ready in seperate rooms. The guys, more comfortable in a t-shirt, thongs and with a beer in hand brushed up handsomely.
Divided only by a single wall, it provided some comedy for the bridal party and ease for myself to shoot the couple and bridal party getting ready.
Over in the bride’s room..Enter the mother of the bride.
Time to get the kids ready.
First looks exist outside of the bride and groom. “Why don’t I get a turn?”“Right kids, time to go!”
Mackay’s marina is a popular spot for locals and tourists with a lighthouse, beach, and palm tree lined promenade it makes for a lovely destination wedding location.
Today however, the sun was shining, so the ceremony took place on the lawn beside the marina.
A candle lit for those that could not be there with the couple on their wedding day. Here comes the bride walked side by side by her proud parents. And then they were married! Capturing genuine, honest moments, the true candid photography that shows personalities, captures the un-expecting, and tells the story in front of me just the way it is, is what I love to do! Seemingly I have a lot of luck coming across princesses and those acting like them! (See Aristea & Jojo’s walkabout). Before re-joining the guests the happy couple snuck off for some sunset photography with an industrial vibe. Enter Mr & Mrs Bonham! Time for speeches and a song by her beautiful daughter that brought a tear to many. Cake cutting and first dances are those moments that only happen once, make the cake good and the dancing fun! A final starry moment with the happy couple, congratulations Emma & Cameron, I loved being part of your winter wedding. To see more from their story or if you’re interested in hiring me as your photographer, I’d love to hear from you, contact me here to find out more about photography for your winter wedding or destination wedding.
